Candidate will be responsible for developing new food and non-food salt-based products from concept to commercialization. Sound knowledge of chemistry including food chemistry and DOE is required. Must be able to monitor trends, new developments and processes to identify opportunities for new value-added products. Candidate will work in cross-functional teams and interface with various stakeholders departments including Marketing, Consumer Insights, Quality, Operations and Procurement.
Major Job Responsibilities
50% Develop and optimize new or improved products and production processes
25% Determine experimental design, conduct appropriate testing, independently analyze laboratory data and make recommendations
10% Proactively monitor published literature regarding industry trends, new ingredient developments and processes to recommend new product ideas
5% Identify appropriate external laboratories or universities and assist in projects conducted externally
5% Conduct literature and patent searches
5% Assist in working trade shows and exhibits
M.S. or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Engineering or related field with 5
years' Experience in food product development is highly desirable
Strong knowledge of process engineering and chemistry including food chemistry
Demonstrated track record in new product development and commercialization
Experience in particle engineering
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
Must anticipate challenges and take initiative to find solutions with a minimum of supervision
Must have knowledge of intellectual properties practices
Effective oral and written communication skills
Self-motivated
Good organizational skills and ability to plan projects with a high energy level
Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team
Internal contacts - Frequent contacts from Marketing and Procurement.
External - Contact with ingredient vendors to determine appropriate raw materials. Contact with external labs to conduct research projects.
Standard laboratory conditions
Evaluate research data and make recommendations
Develop new reduced-sodium solutions; formulate new or improved ice melt products; reformulate products to meet cost-reduction objectives
Up to 20% travelEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
