PRIMARY PURPOSE / POSITION
Summary:
Under the direction of the Department Director/Manager and in compliance with the Illinois Nurse Practice Act, performs professional nursing in a safe and therapeutic manner in the care and treatment of patients assigned; implements the philosophy and objectives of Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital.
JOB FUNCTIONS includes but not limited to:
Demonstrates the ability to assess the patient using physical and psychosocial assessment skills, including patient's age and developmental level.
Coordinates and utilizes a multidisciplinary plan of care.
Demonstrates competency in using the nursing process consistent with patient's age and developmental level.
Recommends quality and/or performance improvement initiatives in order to more effectively and efficiently evaluate patient outcomes.
Documents nursing care and clinical progress appropriately.
Assumes responsibility in updating knowledge and is compliant with ABBHH policies, procedures and objectives of care.
Follows a regimen for professional growth, eg., by attending various meetings, conferences, courses.
Uses tact and sensitivity and communicates effectively with patients, visitors, co-workers and other hospital personnel.
Demonstrates knowledge of and follows departmental and ABBHH guidelines related to guest relations activities in the performance of the duties and responsibilities of the position.
Therapeutically interacts with each person/age group knowledgeable of their various developmental needs.
Demonstrates awareness of patient's needs as a total person (physical, spiritual, emotional, intellectual, cultural, etc.), providing care consistent with patient's age and developmental level.
Is knowledgeable of and conforms to the Administrative Policy on Abuse and Interpersonal Violence: Guidelines for Treatment if Emergency and Hospital Setting.
Adheres to and follows the hospital's safety policies.
Shares in the Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital Vision, demonstrates its Values, supports its Philosophy, and is sensitive to its Mission.
Adheres to and follows Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital's Workplace Ethics, Compliance Program Standards, and policies and procedures.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES specific to BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SERVICES:
Demonstrates the ability to assess the bio-psychosocial status of psychiatric and/or addictions patients incorporating developmental and age related factors. Recognizes physical and behavioral symptoms requiring intervention and initiates treatment to facilitate recovery.
Demonstrates competency in implementing and coordinating the various treatment modalities/strategies which are consistent with the patient's age and developmental age and which are required for care of the psychiatric and/or addictions patients and their significant others, i.e., counseling, group, education, milieu.
Maintains annual credentialing for unit specific procedures and physical management.
Demonstrates an understanding of basic guest relations skills and utilizes these skills to enhance the delivery of care, quality of care and customer satisfaction.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Current licensure in the State of Illinois as a Registered Nurse.
Refresher course, if inactive for more than five years.
One year current clinical nursing experience preferred.
Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
CPI and CPR and both requirements for this position.
Must be able to participate in physical management of patients, including both physical restraint and the application of mechanical restraint when necessary.
Is able to adequately perform the Essential Functions of this Job; as well as being capable of meeting its Functional and Environmental Requirements. (NOTE: The Medical Center will provide reasonable accommodations to qualified disabled individuals in compliance with the Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990 and any subsequent amendments to this Act.)Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
